The two procedures Mastopexy (also known as a Breast-lift) and Mammaplasty (also known as a Breast-Reduction) are actually quite similar, because they are both aimed at remodeling and shaping the breast. The reduction is performed by removing a part of the large breast and reshaping it. The breast-lift procedure is performed by removing some skin, and possibly a small part of the breast. Breast reduction or Mammaplasty is a procedure where the breast is reshaped by removing excess fat and skin to form smaller breasts, and the nipples are repositioned. This is a procedure that can also be used to even up the size of breasts – where one may be much larger than the other. The size of a woman's breasts are partially determined by her genes, the same factors that are inherited and can affect the size and frame of the woman. It can also be influenced by her weight and hormones. Some women develop larger breasts from early adolescence. Others may develop much later in life, even during menopause or after the use of HRT. This can be a source of both physical and psychological discomfort. Large breasts may also appear saggy and droopy with downward pointing nipples.
